Joe Cubas
Founder & Executive Director
Baseball Visionary, Humanitarian, and Advocate for Latin American
Few names in international baseball carry the legacy, weight, and respect of Joe Cubas. A former sports agent, humanitarian, and now the founder of J.Cubas Caribbean Baseball Holdings, Cubas has spent more than three decades changing the trajectory of young athletes across Latin America. His organization and baseball academies operate throughout Latin America and the Caribbean, serving as a comprehensive platform for athletic development and life transformation.
In the 1990s and early 2000s, Cubas gained global recognition as a pioneer and one of the first agents to successfully represent Cuban players defecting from the island in pursuit of professional baseball careers and freedom. In an era defined by political risk and personal sacrifice, Cubas became more than just an agent he was a protector, a guide and a mentor. His efforts helped launch the careers of iconic players such as:
- Mariano Rivera, legendary New York Yankees pitcher, 13-time All-Star, five-time World Series champion, All-time saves leader, and the first player in history unanimously elected (100% of the votes) to the Hall of Fame.
- Orlando “El Duque” Hernández, legendary Yankees pitcher and multi-time World Series champion.
- Liván Hernández, 1997 World Series MVP with the Florida Marlins.
- Osvaldo Fernández, Rolando Arrojo, Danys Baez, Yoel Monzon and many others who paved the way for future generations of Cuban players.
Cubas stood out for his deep commitment to his players’ lives beyond baseball. He provided safe relocation, cultural adjustment support, and personal mentorship treating each athlete not just as a client, but as family. His blend of professionalism and humanity left a lasting mark on international baseball.
Today, through J. Cubas Caribbean Baseball Holdings, Cubas continues that mission by developing elite talent across Latin America. With operations & academies throughout Latin America, the organization prepares young athletes for success on and off the field emphasizing discipline, character, and personal growth.
What truly sets the organization apart is its dual-path mission: while most clients go on to sign professional contracts, Cubas has also made a profound impact in the academic realm. He has personally secured a voluminous amount of college baseball scholarships for players at major universities and institutions across the United States. These placements include NCAA Division I programs, junior colleges, and top-tier academic institutions empowering players not only with athletic opportunity, but with a long-term educational foundation.
“Baseball is the vehicle,” says Cubas, “but the destination is bigger than the game. Whether it’s a professional contract or a college education, my goal is to help these young men build a future that elevates their entire families.”
Beyond his professional achievements, Joe Cubas is a devoted family man. He has been married to his high school sweetheart, Maria for over 44 years, and together they have three beautiful children, Jeanette, Melissa and Dayan and four precious grand-children; Jude Michael, Jolene, Sloan and Andie. His values of loyalty, commitment, and family are deeply reflected in his life’s work.
Joe Cubas remains a respected and connected figure in the global baseball ecosystem, maintaining strong relationships with MLB clubs, scouting agencies, college programs, and international development leaders. His name is synonymous with integrity, opportunity, and transformation. J. Cubas Caribbean Baseball Holdings stands today as a model for what is possible when sports, education, and mentorship work together to change lives across Latin America.
